The last time we played Bowling Green, KY, it was for a private event. A birthday party, to be more specific, at our favorite (and now; sadly, defunct) Western Kentucky watering hole Tidball’s. We drove through a monsoon to get there, on the back of an already long overnight haul from our previous engagement in Florence, AL, and were almost certain we were not going to survive the trek. Soggy, but otherwise unharmed, we did our best to entertain the birthday girl, her husband (who’d arranged the whole thing), and a handful of her braver friends, who’d also risked their lives, and traversed a series of flooded roadways to hear us and/or enjoy cake.

Now, nearly 3 years later, we return, to open a show for Collective Soul at SkyPAC on Sunday, October 25th. It’s a slightly larger venue this time (1700 seats, give or take), and they probably won’t be serving penny beers, like the many we once regularly consumed, on Thursday nights at our old haunt, when we were young(er), and less responsible (gentle)men.

As we roll up on that date, Kenny recently suggested we dig back into the old fORMER catalog, and dust off a few tunes from our “The Kids Deserve Cable” (2011) record. After a bit of homework, and a rehearsal dedicated to making sure we were all on the same page, what would effectively be Side 1 of that opus is now part of our extended repertoire.

As much as I hate the smell of mothballs, I really have missed playing some of those tunes. Hopefully, we’ll get to bust one or two out in October. Hell, it’s so close to Halloween, maybe I’ll shave my beard, dye my hair black, and go as 2011 me, so we can do the whole set as fORMER. I can almost guarantee you Matt has a Henry Go costume in his closet already.
